This is a wonderful recipe. Delight don't be deterred by the "actress grooming" noted in some of the reviews. Every step is worth it, from browning the meat to deglazing the pan. This hearty and flavorful stew satisfied my family and dinner guests. Everyone went back for more. I followed the recipe as written, using merlot for the carmine wine considering I like the rich flavor and Yukon Gold potatoes because I like their taste and texture and they were on hand for the Potato Fougasse (spud bread with olive oil and rosemary) I made to back-trail the stew. They were wonderful together. Trust your instincts when thickening the stew one time it is done. Some reviews complained about consistency only you really need to make up one's mind what information technology needs for yourself using more or less of a flour/water paste than indicated. Do what works for y'all. (And by the mode, if you have extra merlot use it with the flour instead of water to thicken the stew to impart some extra flavour.)

This is a perfectly elementary, nonetheless delicious, beef stew recipe. I should probably charge per unit it 5 stars, simply since I slightly tweeked the recipe I give it a four since my dominion is 5 stars only if I make no changes. The only changes I made are to add 4 cloves of garlic, I used 1 cup water and 2 cups Merlot for my liquid (information technology still could take used another cup of liquid), but the extra wine added a richness water could not reach. I also used more carrots since the pot seemed to be lacking. Simple changes to suit our taste. Seasoned merely correct...didn't add or regret not adding any seasoning. Kept u.s. warm and satisfied! Thanks.

This was REALLY adept...the meat was kind of dry merely that might be user error ... :) I'll still give it a 5. (of course my firm withal smells like stew...) I used near i.25# of meat or and so, Lipton beefy onion soup mix, two small packs of baby carrots, 2 red potatoes, and 1 onion. I didn't saute the onions in butter either. I prepped this the dark before, and next morn, popped it in the crock pot. It cooked on low for 12 hrs (might account for the dryness). The meat shredded easily. My fiance thought it was tasty, then I think this recipe is a keeper. I might add some beef goop next time for more than liquid to combat the dryness. The pepper really gives it a little boot! I didn't have to thicken the gravy because I had dumped in the flour from the meat. All in all, a successful kickoff crock pot feel... :) *note - I've made this several times now, and adding the tin can of beef broth really helps! From now on, I'll brand sure all of my crock pot dishes have plenty liquid to cover the meat! I also have been using sweet potatoes in lieu of regular potatoes...yum!

This was one delicious stew! I am not a great fan of beef stews just this one was so good fifty-fifty I had seconds! My husband thought information technology was outstanding. The only thing extra I did was add well-nigh 1 1/2 cups frozen peas to have more than vegetables. I made this on a cold snowy twenty-four hour period and the house was and then full of wonderful smells our mouths were watering by dinnertime!! I will be making this often in the wintertime months!
12/22/2005
My husband has been asking me to brand him some stew and then I gave this recipe a try. He loved it! I used 2 cups of beef broth instead of 2 cups of water and besides used some Au Jus seasoning with the soup mix. I too added in some fresh garlic and mushrooms. I will definately brand this again.
05/16/2007
I fabricated this last nighttime, and it turned out cracking, the best beef stew I ever made. I let my mom effort it and she loved it. Just thing that would brand it better is if I did not cutting the potatoes and carrots into large chunks only seize with teeth size pieces!! Will make again.
02/23/2007
First-class! I sub'd minor pearl onions and pocket-sized potatoes, both cut in half. Nosotros really enjoyed the stew!

5 stars with my revisions. I made this for the first time and it was amazing. I also halved the recipe. Its merely me and my married man. To the initial handbag of flour I did add some fresh ground black pepper while shaking up the beef to coat with flour and pepper. I used ii carrots and two celery stalks and i can diced tomatoes. I did add together a chicken and a beef bouillion cube to the boiling water too equally the Onion Soup Mix. And I increased the boiling water mixture by i/four c and then that I could use it at the end to make the flour mixture to thicken the stew. I sauted 1 medium onion and 3 garlic cloves and so added that to the bottom of the crockpot. I also browned the meat and and so removed information technology from the pan and and so used most 1/2c of red wine (Pinot Noir) to scrape up the chocolate-brown bits using my wooden spoon. I didnt use whatever butter, only used Olive Oil. To the crockpot I did add ane/2t of Paprika, 1t of Worcesetershire sauce and a couple of shakes of salt, way less then 1/2t. I poured the vino brown bits into the crock pot. I placed it on hi and it was prepare to consume in 3 one/2hours. My God, this was so amazing. I was in heaven, and then was my hubby and it disappeared! Nosotros ate this for iii days straight, lunch and dinner and had double servings. OMG, thanks for posting a great basic recipe that turned out fantastic to our tastes.
02/10/2011
Me and my hubby did not care for this. I used Merlot vino, maybe that had something to do with the strange flavor, I don't know. The house smelled wonderful while it was cooking, but the taste did not friction match the odor. I won't brand this again. :(

so yummy

Fantabulous stew! I did change a few things (very like to what others take done). Veggie changes: I used about two.five cups baby carrots and 1 small bag of blood-red potatoes (rinsed and put in crock-pot whole!) Instead of boiling water to mix with the dry out onion soup mix I used boiling beef broth (from a carton). I increased the cherry-red vino to iii/4 cup. After everything was in the crock-pot it seemed like it still needed more liquid, so I added the rest of the carton of beef goop! I omitted the final step (thickening) - didn't need it to me! Fifty-fifty my 3 year old nephew loved this dish and he is a very picky eater! This is a keeper for sure.
11/25/2010
Oh my goodness this beef stew recipe was really good, I read alot I hateful alot of the reviews on information technology and took peoples advice and added more spices (Salt, pepper, seasoning common salt, garlic pulverisation) and used Lipton bulky onion dry soup mix forth with beefiness stck instead of h2o and wine since we dont drink. I too added celery, peas and a large clove of garlic along with the veggies mentioned in the recipe. At commencement I was not to certain nearly the aroma it was not what I was expecting but and then the moment nosotros tryed information technology everything was and then so yummy and day 2 is fifty-fifty amend. So endeavor this one out because it is a sure thing!!!! Relish because I know I did.

I did take to tweak this recipe a fleck, but I still believe information technology's worthy of a five star rating. I could never brand a stew without adding some garlic, and then five minced cloves went into the crock pot. I also added some celery chunks and replaced the water with a hearty ruby-red wine. Super delicious, warming and hearty! And please remember, you don't have to follow recipes to a T. If you have a little cooking feel under your belt, and then use your own instincts to make these recipes yours. For example, some reviewers gave a lower rating to this recipe because they thickened the stew likewise much. But that'due south completely avoidable. But add together the h2o/flour mixture slowly, stir and come across how thick it gets. If it'southward thick plenty earlier you use it all upwardly, stop. You're washed. Oh, and using ruby-red wine in place of the water for thickening will give a deep, layered flavor to your stew this is fabulous. If you don't similar cooking with wine, then I would propose using beefiness broth in place of the h2o in this recipe.
11/18/2010
This is the best stew I have ever eaten! Everyone in the family loves when I make information technology. I merely change a couple things. Instead of using a bag to mix the beef and flour mixture in, I find it easier to employ a medium container with lid. It coats more evenly and is a bit less messy. I also set the Lipton onion soup with one cup water and one loving cup vino, and use nearly 1/2 cup wine at the end instead of i/4 cup. Yes, it sounds like a fleck much wine, but it adds wonderful flavor (I use Merlot).
11/16/2010
Actually proficient, information technology took near 45 minutes to prep. I doubled the meat, let it marinade in almost 1 cup of red wine and minced garlic. Then tossed them in the flour and seasonings, and browned picayune at a time equally to not crowed the meat. I used 2 cups of beefiness goop instead of water and used another ane loving cup of ruby-red wine and dried fresh thyme from my garden. It was amazing..

Good stew! While I enjoyed this quite a bit, I however prefer the stew recipe from my "Fix it & Forget It" cookbook that I stumbled upon years ago. This recipe is really just a pot roast in stew form. The next time I make this, I'd do merely that - skip the stew meat and instead add a large roast to my slow cooker (or set the expectation up forepart and call this "pot roast stew"). I'd besides bulk up on the carrots (love em!), add some celery and serve over egg noodles to sop up the yummy gravy. I pretty much followed IAMROSIE's directions to the alphabetic character except for subbing beef broth for the water added to the corstarch mixture (I had but enough for that but not enough to sub for the boiling water added to the onion soup mix) and using beefy onion mix instead of plain 'ol onion soup mix (again, because I didn't have plenty broth to sub for the Water called for). I also peeled my potatoes (personal preference). My wine of option was merlot. I cooked everything exactly every bit directed with excellent results. Annotation: Don't permit the cornstarch mixture fool y'all.... I idea information technology would be a slurry (i.e. watery), only it turned out to be a very thick paste. Once added to my slow cooker, it dissolved and worked its magic! :) Served with J.P.'s big daddy'southward biscuits and unproblematic broiled apples for dessert (two recipes on this site), this was a nice fall meal. Thanks for sharing, IAMROSIE! :-)
12/19/2011
This was sooo succulent! Fifty-fifty my picky kids ate it. I followed it exactly except I marinated the meat for iii hours in red vino and 2 tablespoons soy sauce. I as well used half the onion and eliminated salt since I had used soy sauce in the marinade. The meat was really tender and total of flavor. I am tossing out all my other beef stew recipes!
12/16/2008
Delicious and healthy! I used all of the reviewer reccommendations and retrieve all the fresh veggies make information technology the best. My favourites are sweetness irish potato, dark-green beans, mushrooms and peas- yum! I only used one onion and less butter than reccommended and it is however amazingly flavourful- mmmm!
12/11/2011
This is a fantastic stew. However, equally the servings imply, it is a very big recipe. This will not fit in a five-quart Crockpot. To arrive fit, I eliminated 1 pound of beef, two potatoes, and ane onion.
03/08/2013
i have been making this for years. information technology is basic stew and its never fail. i always omit salt when using wine. i practise add together extra pepper.and a bay leaf..
01/03/2012
Fabricated this for my New year'due south political party and information technology was a striking. It turned out to be mode to much to fit in my 3.v qt boring cooker, and so I did it in an enameled cast atomic number 26 pot with lid in the oven. Added a scrap more liquid, started at 300 for half an hour, then downwardly to about 240. I thought it would still take 7 hours, just information technology took much less. I'k not sure exactly, but I recollect information technology was around four hours. Came out peachy, and even better the next couple of days.
12/01/2010
Tiptop of the "piece of cake" list and very tasty likewise. Freezes well. Volition make this winner again.
03/26/2013
Wow! We love, love, LOVE this beef stew! We made some modification based on what other reviewers had said, and the concluding product was amazing. We browned the flour and salt, plus 1/2tsp. paprika and garlic covered meat, and then put it in the crockpot. In the same pan as the meat, I browned the onions until soft, and so added iv Tbsp. minced garlic, waited until it was fragrant, so turned off the heat and added 3/4 of wine, making sure to scrape all the browned bits upwards. Then I put that mixture in the crockpot. I added the carrots, parsley, pepper, and onion soup similar the recipe called for, and exchanged the water for beef broth, and added 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce, i/2 tsp. Paprika, 2 Bay leafs, 1 tsp. thyme and rosemary. I omitted the potatoes, and served it over egg noddles. This made for an amazing stew! Tin can't wait to make it over again!
02/27/2013
Wonderful recipe - this is a keeper! Took a footling longer than fifteen minutes for the prep (unless all your vegies/potatoes are pre-cutting), then maybe expect more like thirty minutes for the prep. I followed the recipe pretty closely except for liberally adding a few teaspoons of garlic (crushed - the fresh garlic that comes in a jar) and making the liquid half bordeaux wine and half water. Loved the flavor and scent the wine added, just next time I will probably use beefiness stock instead of the h2o and maybe add together some Worcestershire sauce to requite it a more robust beefy taste - and make the total liquid added to the tedious cooker equal well-nigh a cup more than specified in the recipe. I wouldn't be shy about calculation a few more spices - like rosemary, fresh footing black pepper, etc. to taste. I don't like the thought of the MSG in the onion soup mix, just I would not get out the onion soup mix out - this recipe benefits tremendously from its gustatory modality. I think it would definitely be missing something significant without it. I cooked mine overnight because I work very long days (11-hours) so cooking it through the 24-hour interval was not an option. I cooked it on high for virtually ane.v hours and turned it down to low for another 5 hours. Information technology came out with the vegies mayhap just a bear upon too al-dente. I might consider adding another hour cooking at depression next fourth dimension. I didn't thicken the liquid at the finish - it didn't need information technology. The meat turned out very tender and moist. Go along the size of potatoes and vegies small-scale and seize with teeth-sized.
eleven/20/2012
This was fantastic! I didn't use onion soup mix, just beef broth and ruddy wine and I added a few hot peppers for oestrus, but the flavour was perfect! My guests loved it as well. Enjoy!
10/29/2011
Cracking stew! Had lots of season, not bland like a lot of beef stews are. I did increase the wine a petty scrap.
10/24/2008
This was the best e'er beef stew! It volition most definitely replace the other recipe I've followed for years. De glazing the pan was actually important to add all the flavours from the pan. I didn't have (don't like) cherry vino but DID have reddish wine vinegar on paw so used that instead. Other than that I followed the recipe exactly (halved it though....all that wouldn't fit into my slow cooker!!) Succulent!! Make it!!
01/10/2012
Very, Very tasty...will make this once again..did non use the onion soup mix..beef goop instead of water. Added Garlic. Will melt a piddling longer or put on high temp longer.
01/02/2011
Update: I just had to say, I similar this more every fourth dimension I get in! The only addition I make is some garlic and mushrooms, and more vino than chosen for. It's the best beefiness stew I've ever had. Manus's downward! Original review: WOW! This was delicious! I followed the recipe about exactly. I used a trivial less stew meat (round steaks I had in the freezer, chopped up) and onion (2 instead of 3) and more carrots. I added button mushrooms about an hour and a one-half before the end of the cooking fourth dimension. I didn't have beef/onion soup mix, just regular onion for dip and such, so I added a teastpoon of instant beef bullion to it and the water. I used Cabernet Sauvignon for the wine as it's what I had. Otherwise, I followed as close as I could. Information technology smelled wonderful cooking and tasted fifty-fifty amend. My only regret is I didn't think to bake a loaf of crusty french breadstuff to go with it. This will be my go-to stew recipe from now on!
ten/05/2008
Corking stew. I used other'southward suggestions with the Worcestershire sauce and more ruddy wine. I added a teaspoon of minced garlic, a bay leafage, and celery. Perfect fall/wintertime staple.
12/31/2010
Oh my give-and-take. I take high cholesterol and then I substituted the beef with boneless chicken breast. My married man was skeptical, but he ate 4 bowls of this center healthy version. This recipe is so delicious there were no complaints of the missing beef.
01/26/2012
I loved this stew. I did make some adjustments. I doubled the sauce (water/soup), and added extra seasonings such as garlic, salt, pepper, worsteshire, and any else I felt like that day. It is ane of our go to recipes now.
eleven/14/2011
This was pretty good. I actually made it on the stovetop instead of in the slow cooker. The flavour was skilful, but I'1000 giving it just iii starts because I employ my slow cooker for i chief reason: to save time. With all the peeling and chopping and pre-cooking in this recipe, it'south not really a time-saver and I recall violates the main principal of what tiresome cooker meal should exist.
03/08/2013
I've had this recipe for over 30 years just I at present put one bottle of beer instead of the vino and my husband flips over this version. Give it a try-the beer adds another layer of heartiness to the stew.Mmmmmm!
11/20/2010
This recipe is And so good! Gear up everything the dark before and put in the refrigerator, pop it in the crock pot the next forenoon and come up home from work smelling this wonderful meal!
01/13/2012
This was awesome! Everyone, even my picky daughter LOVED It. The extra steps were worth it! Crockpots aren't simply for throwing everything in and forgetting information technology, it'southward for SLOW cooking - so I actually didn't mind the extra work. :)
02/18/2010
My favorite no fuss beef stew recipe! Definitely a keeper!
11/11/2005
This turned out very well for my first beef stew. Chose it considering it did not require beef boullion cubes or other such additives. I was worried about the quantity, having read other reviews which suggest that it will not fit a crock pot. Space was not a problem in my boring cooker, despite using the full corporeality of meat, vegetables, etc. I added an actress 1/4 cup red wine and used whole wheat flour. Didn't take onion soup mix, then used fried red onions, about 1/2 c, and 1/2 t table salt and information technology nonetheless turned out very flavourful. Subtle flavour, though. Great with Never Fail Biscuits, another allrecipe product.
03/17/2012
I'g sorry to knock the recipe merely fabricated information technology but this tasted like it could have come out of a can. I volition stick with my usual way of making stew so information technology doesn't all turn to mush. The veggies should accept been added hours after the beef stewed and the flour made information technology thicker than it should be.
11/17/2010
Time consuming for a tiresome cooker recipe but very good.
10/08/2011
This was a very expert stew! The but reason it has iv stars and not 5 is that I am not a large "stew" person...simply my married man loved it! I did following some of the recommendations though, such as substituting the water for beef broth and adding a chip more then called for. I also used red potatoes since the recipe didn't specify and they are my favorite, and garlic when sauteing the onions. Overall, a very good meal and I will defiantly exist making it again!
ten/01/2011
Loved this recipe! I used a Barefoot Merlot and chicken stock instead of the 2c of water, and it was fabled! Great for a fall day, it had the house smelling so good and was delicious and filling! Definitely my go-to recipe for beef stew!
09/15/2011
Absolutely succulent! The best beef stew I have e'er made! The family loved it. I volition be making information technology again for sure!
12/07/2006
Nosotros all agreed - blah. No taste. Needed more spices, Worcestershire sauce, something. Not the stew recipe I hoped it would be. Back to the lists....
01/30/2006
Very good basic recipe...every bit with all recipes, you have to make information technology your ain. I used Beefy-onion soup mix instead of just onion, added a little more wine and more spices (sage, tyme and a little basil) used Natures Seasoning instead of common salt and some frozen peas ten min. earlier serving and it all came out wonderfully!
02/09/2012
I have been making stew for years, and quite honestly, my family unit doesn't like it. I thought I would try this i, and wow! They devoured it and asked for more. It's a niggling fourth dimension consuming to make, merely the cease result is totally worth it. Don't alter a affair, just follow the recipe. Wonderful!
10/25/2007
I followed the recipe exactly and it was outstanding. It will become a regular peculiarly in the cooler months. Thanks
09/17/2010
This is excellent! I did read reader'due south comments and took them to heart. I would suggest a few changes every bit that I tin can see this being a little bland without them. Use beef stock and not water. Thicken with wine and flour, not water and flour. Wine... Uh.. more vino... (never too much wine! lol) I added garlic as well every bit some Worcestershire sauce. Also added peas and mushrooms as that I am a huge fan of mushroom. I did a lot of eyballing for my additions and some tasting here and in that location. My first beef stew and this is a WINNER!. Thank you!
x/21/2012
This was seriously and so good and so piece of cake!!! I am not very experienced in the kitchen and looked at a lot of different recipes before settling on this one. I stuck to the recipe exactly, except I used wine instead of water when adding at the flour at the very end. Everything else was exactly as the recipe chosen for. Oh and we did it on loftier for xc mins and low for iii hours because we got a tardily start. There was enough of gravy, and it was the perfect consistency. We had my mother in law over for dinner and she said information technology was the best stew she'd ever had. Score! Stick to the recipe - you won't be sorry! Served it with a side salad, some sour dough bread...yum!
xi/25/2011
Very yummy. Browning the meat and deglazing with red wine makes all the difference.
12/02/2010
... Meh... I think that next time I will substitute i-1 1/2 tsp of Clubhouse Montreal Steak Spice (in the U.s.a., I think it's McCormicks Steak Spice) in place of both the table salt and pepper to improve enhance the flavour of the beef
12/eleven/2008
Great recipe. I followed all the instructions without making whatever alterations.
05/25/2008
This smelled so practiced when it was cooking! I seasoned beef well earlier shaking in flour, with common salt, pepper, garlic powder. I didnt have onion soup mix but i added 1tbs of dried thyme, pepper, and onion powder. i used virtually 4 large cloves of garlic with the onion when i sauteed, and about 1 cup of scarlet wine. SOOOOOO good. I added the veggies in the concluding couple hours of cooking and then they wouldnt be besides mushy. Thanks for the recipe, yum!
03/04/2005
This was a existent hit with my family unit. I make a few changes when I fabricated it, I did not take carmine wine, so I added some worcestershire sauce. Information technology was wonderful, and not difficult to make.
xi/20/2011
This stew is outstanding. I've fabricated a lot of beef stews and this one is among my favorite recipes. All I added was a couple dashes of worcestershire sauce and a bit extra ground black pepper. Thanks for a winner!
ten/30/2011
Nifty recipe. I also added a few of my own touches including worchester, beefiness boullion , fresh garlic and a touch of stewed tomatoes. The wine really gave it a full flavor. Everybody will love it. Plus I only used 1 ane/ii lbs of beefiness and it was more than enough!
11/30/2011
This was amazing! I didn't change a thing and when I make it over again and again I will follow the instructions exactly every bit information technology is written because there is no going wrong with this one.
11/xi/2005
It had an okay flavor but at that place were so many ingredients (and I have the larger sized crock pot), that it made my flour coated meat mushy and my potatoes mushy too. Fifty-fifty though I browned information technology, I found flour sticking to the sides of the pot at bottom.
01/19/2005
This recipe was splendid. Information technology was the showtime ane I used from this web site. Two people have already asked me for the recipe -- and one of them I consider an fantabulous cook!! I added italien seasonings, worcestershire sauce, 1 bay foliage and mushrooms. I doubled the vino, decreased the potatoes by one as well as the onions.
01/31/2012
My family really enjoyed this recipe. I finally found a great recipe for beef stew. Thankyou
11/27/2011
I added celery. Could probably use less meat adjacent fourth dimension. I subbed thyme and rosemary for the parsley only still found this to be somewhat lacking in flavour.
02/03/2011
So skillful. I kept to the recipe, but following suggestions to utilize yellow potatoes and merlot. I likewise used garlic pepper on the meat while browning information technology. I didn't carp to thicken the stew at the end, since it was plenty thick enough for my family's taste. Nosotros loved it and will be making this once more.
11/sixteen/2011
Delicious! Other than using half the onions, I pretty much followed the recipe exactly...tin't expect to make information technology again!
11/23/2011
I accept made this twice, both times for fifty or more people. I only modify the ruby-red wine to beefiness stock. I add other seasonings, to our gustatory modality, but who doesn't? This is a wonderful recipe, and a definate keeper. To mention, I have fabricated this for teens and adults equally a Halloween meal and add together orzo, to make maggot stew :) Anybody loves it!
02/03/2013
When I fabricated this recipe equally written it was kind of bland. The side by side time I fabricated it i used beef broth instead of h2o, information technology was succulent.
01/22/2002
Rosie I used to use a mix to make my stew yours sounded good and so I tried information technology and the family loved it! I put one tin can of Hunts family favorites Soup and Stew tomato sauce and some celery in it. Information technology had alot of flavor!
12/22/2011
Simply amazing! This is the best beef stew Ive ever had! Wow. I followed the directions to the letter. Dont let the extra prep deter you. It is well worth it in the flavor department. I did add together some celery and mushrooms, likewise as some garlic. This was fantastic and cant wait to make information technology once more!!!
01/22/2015
And then expert!!! The but minor changes I made were adding garlic powder to the meat dredge, adding more wine, and adding more veggies (why not beef it up with parsnips and celery?!?). Mine certainly did non brand 12 servings because my husband kept filling his bowl to the top. I would say this fabricated closer to 6-8 servings of a medium basin. Volition brand information technology once more!
12/13/2011
We enjoyed this and so much. Added cabbage, couple parsnips and a turnip. I personally don't like stew just fabricated this for my married man; but I LOVED it! Volition make this often I'm sure. And so easy!
01/29/2012
I love beefiness stew made in the crockpot only it is not necessary to brownish the beef or onions ahead of fourth dimension - also, why go to all that trouble if yous are looking for an piece of cake dish to put together. It really does taste the aforementioned.
11/27/2002
Awesome...even my picky ix-year former liked it, and that says it all! :)
10/26/2011
This was a very skilful bones recipe, but it definitely could have used more flavor. Next time I will probably marinate the beef in the ruby-red wine and some garlic. Only the extra preparation in the skillet was definitely worth it. I will exist making it over again, only with more seasoning!
02/14/2005
This was expert. It did taste a picayune bland and so I added a bay leafage and a couple of dashes of worcestershire sauce, a nuance of thyme and some more salt and pepper. I let it cook for another half hour or and then. Overall a expert recipe that can be adapted to your family unit's taste.
01/24/2010
VERY easy and quick. I took some of the other cook's advice and replaced water with beef goop, added a beef boullion cube and peas. tasted astonishing and the aroma was cracking. I also doubled the amount of carrots and used ruddy potatoes.
12/xxx/2005
This recipe is delicious! The meat and potatoes were tender and succulent. Definitely worth the wait!
eleven/21/2008
I thought this was a pretty simple and hearty stew. I added some celery, near 1 loving cup also some garlic most 2 cloves. I didnt thicken information technology up at the end because I used russet potatos and they seemed to do the chore. I made dumplings to get with it instead of staff of life or buns. All of the ingredients didnt fit inside my crock pot, and I have a adequately huge one. And then what I did was used a roasting pan and set the oven to 350F and cooked the stew for 1 60 minutes earlier turning the oven down to 200F. I let the stew cook for 5 hours stiring once in a while. It turned out great and the meat was tender and falling apart. I volition brand this again for sure!
11/21/2005
This stew is corking! I followed a lot of the suggestions from other reviews, calculation a lilliputian actress vino in identify of the h2o. I likewise added 1 T. of worchestershire sauce to the beef while I browned it. When I cooked the onions, I added some sliced fresh mushrooms and 4 cloves of chopped garlic as well. The stew turned out wonderfully. I probably spent 30-45 minutes in prep fourth dimension, only I had extra ingredients to slice, and was working in a very tiny apartment kitchen and then I have to wash dishes as I work. This was my beginning fourth dimension using a crock pot (it was a nuptials gift back in June)and I was very impressed with the results. I'll deffinately keep making this recipe all winter! The leftovers are keen microwaved for dejeuner the side by side day!

Splendid! Did not use wine and there was no need to thicken. This is the beef stew recipe I've been looking for.

I do non similar Beefiness Stew simply THIS is NOT "beef stew" - it is Sky!!! Like then many others, I substituted the water with wine. I also ended up using veggie soup mix considering I couldn't observe the onion soup mix... I added extra dried minced onion to it and I as well added iii cloves of chopped garlic and 1/four tsp of Thyme along with a pinch of rosemary... it was sooo good that the 12 servings I made fed four people with merely enough left over for us to all swallow lunch today.

Delicious and flavourful, just the way information technology is.

This was succulent. My ain remark would exist that when adding red wine to it, to be certain that information technology is very dry out and non sugariness. I had on manus some red dry out marsala, which is a sweet vino, and information technology made the stew too sweet. Otherwise it would have been perfect.

Very tasty recipe. The prep time was greater than 15 min for me. I get my stew meat at Costco and the pieces are too big so I had to cut them and trim a little. And so I had to pare the potatoes and the browning takes a while. I would say the prep time was closer to 30 min, maybe more, but very worth it because it was a delicious stew.

I added bacon it was fantastic

Equally information technology appears, I give it 3 stars. I tasted it before I added the flour/water at the end and I found it really bland. I added in a few dashes of garlic powder, common salt, paprika, and near two tablespoons of A1 sauce and information technology made it a 4 star. I would suggest calculation more spices to it because it lacks flavor.

Could not be better! Followed exactly and came out amazing! I've made information technology his well-nigh ten times and never change a thing

I made this last dark and followed the recipe except for omitting the mushrooms and wine because I did not accept any. This had no more flavor than when I have only placed everything in the crockpot without taking actress steps. I Was somewhat disappointed that I had taken the time to fry the beefiness and saute the onions. I did add beef consome instead of h2o just however no boosted flavors that I was looking for.

This is a corking recipe. My kids love it. The only reason I didn't requite this 5 stars is because of 2 modifications that I make. I substitute sweet potatoes for regular potatoes (actually nice flavor in stew), and I add quartered mushrooms.

Very, very good. I must acknowledge to two errors: I left the house and thought I'd have fourth dimension to stop back & turn information technology downwards to low. I didn't, so information technology cooked on High for about 7 hours. It was still moist and delicious. The meat was fall apart tender. The flavor was excellent. I think the wine and the butter are key.

I've made this a couple of times now and it'south been a big striking. I did add a few more than spices (rosemary, garlic and tyme) and throw in extra veggies and some celery. Information technology's exactly what you think of when you lot think of beefiness stew - and it does make the business firm scent WONDERFUL! Thank you lot very much for sending this one in, Rosie T.!

I normally find stews bland, but this recipe has a lot of flavor. I've made information technology a few times now. Takes a bit of work at the beginning, but information technology can be left alone all solar day. Information technology makes a nice smell throughout the house.

Great recipe. I did add worcestershire as others suggested and remember it definitely nice flavor to the broth. I did add a little more wine than the recipe called for and information technology still tasted really expert. Adjacent time I may try to add some condensed beef broth instead of the extra wine though. Very delicious!!

All-time meal I take e'er made!!! I'm not joking. Only difference is that instead of the 1/4 loving cup of water and flour at the end I used about a TBS of corn starch. Also, i fabricated a fault that turned out for the better. I used 1/four cups of Merlot i used ii cups. Let's just say that the kids went to bed a little early on. KIDDING. Just i did utilise 2 cups. Tasted corking.

I only made this today for the start time and followed the recipe exactly, just added a jalapeno for some spice! I tasted it most 3/4 the way thru and decided information technology needed some salt for flavor. Those are the simply two things I did differently and it came out great!!

This is my first review and I am but doing this because I really was shocked that this recipe received such a high rating. This stew had very little flavour. I followed the recipe exactly as information technology was written. We will not be trying this again.

WONDERFUL! Next fourth dimension I volition double the vino (I used a good Merlot). This time I didn't have onions so I skipped that step and sauteed the baby carrots instead. I also couldn't find onion soup mix so I substituted it with "beef vegetable soup mix". I immune it to cook in the slow cooker for 9 hours (couldn't go home in time to do it for six) and the beef did not become dry or tough; merely the potatoes broke down a bit and then I did non have to add the flour @ the end.

my husband I really loved it! Leftovers were even better!

This Stew was bursting w/. flavour, all though didn't demand some of the spices
04/01/2008
Absolutely succulent!! The kids are finishing up their second helpings correct at present. I fabricated a few changes but for our personal tastes. I added rosemary, pepper, season common salt and the parsley to the flour for the meat. I also did one onion instead of three, used beef goop instead of h2o & an extra cup of water with a niggling Worchestersire sauce in it(Just considering the 2 cups of broth was non enough to cover the meat and veggies). This is 1 of the BEST meals that I take tried from this site. Worth every second of the effort it took!

I did non think this was the All-time stew I've always tasted. Information technology seemed to lack some season. Next time I'd add some celery for sure and some other spices to jazz it upward.
